X-Ray Scatter and Leakage Calibration & QA Tools

X-Ray scatter and leakage tools

RTI’s comprehensive X-ray Testing & Quality Assurance (QA) portfolio offers specialized solutions for X-ray scatter and leakage measurements across all diagnostic X-ray modalities, including radiography, fluoroscopy (interventional), mammography, CT and dental applications. The RTI Scatter Probe sets the standard for industry leading measurements of X-ray scatter and leakage for X-ray manufacturers, service groups, engineers, medical physicists and healthcare professionals. The RTI Scatter Probe is considered the ultimate survey meter for diagnostic X-ray applications.

Integrated with our intuitive Ocean Next software, our scatter and leakage tools provide not only the ultimate user experience, but also full compliance with regulation, with detector area sizes that comply with the relevant IEC and FDA regulations. Ocean software can automate routine tests with advanced analysis and reporting tools, streamlining X-ray QA. The RTI Scatter Probe is capable of measuring Air Kerma (Gy or R), Air Kerma Rate, Peak Air Kerma Rate, in addition to ambient dose equivalent (such as H*(10) rate, measured in Sieverts) and mean energy (keV).

RTI Scatter Probe: scatter & leakage measurements in diagnostic X-ray

The RTI Scatter Probe measures X-ray scatter and X-ray leakage in diagnostic X-ray systems. The Scatter Probe accurately measures in accordance with international regulations and guidelines (IEC, FDA) with the dedicated areas for measurement of 100cm² and 10cm².

High sensitivity measurements of Air Kerma, Air Kerma Rate and many other parameters can be displayed, to ensure safety of patients and staff.

Scatter and leakage Application coverage

  • X-ray scatter and leakage occurs in all forms of medical diagnostic X-ray systems.
  • X-ray leakage is defined as the X-ray that escapes from the X-ray tube housing (typically measured with the collimation closed).
  • X-ray scatter is defined as the scattered radiation that occurs when X-rays interact with matter, such as a patient (typically measured with a patient-representative phantom).
  • IEC and FDA regulations (21 CFR 1020.3X and IEC 60601-1-3 standards) stipulate that X-ray scatter and leakage shall be measured over an area of 10 or 100- square centimetres.
  • Solid state detectors (RTI Scatter Probe) typically have a much faster response time than Ion Chamber-based survey probes, meaning measurements without having to apply compensation factors.

Compliant with regulation

The Scatter Probe is a robust and highly-sensitive solid-state scatter detector, which complies fully with the IEC and FDA regulations with regards to detector size, for both X-ray scatter and X-ray leakage measurements. The 100cm² and 10cm² areas can be intuitively selected with Ocean Next software to measure with the correct detector size for the application.

High sensitivity and response times

The Scatter Probe is the premium choice for X-ray scatter and leakage measurements thanks to its industry-leading sensitivity. The advanced solid-state detector design can measure across the medical X-ray energy range 16 to 120 keV (ISO N20 to ISO N150). Unlike Ion Chamber-based survey meters, the RTI Scatter Probe has much faster response times, comprehensive energy compensation, negating the need for compensation factors.

Ease of use

The RTI Scatter Probe includes a mini-tripod for handheld use, in addition to easy positioning on a table or surface, with a smart anti-slip surface design. Furthermore, the RTI Scatter Probe can be connected to any standard camera tripod using the built-in thread, for easy elevation of the detector into the required position. The RTI Scatter Probe is easy to transport, with no permits required (unlike pressurized ion chambers).
