Routine QA Measurements in Dental X-ray

The Mako R/F Probe or Mako Dental Probe can be used to measure in intraoral, panoramic, or cone beam CT, for measurement of kV, dose, HVL, pulses and more.

Dental Application Coverage

  • Dental X-ray applications include intraoral (2D), panoramic (3D) and Cone Beam CT (CBCT) applications.
  • Measurements can include kV, dose, dose rate, exposure time, total filtration & half value layer (HVL); in addition to measurements of Dose Area Product (DAP; or kerma area product (KAP)).
  • The rapid growth of dental and maxillofacial X-ray units means that more advanced X-ray QA tools are needed.
  • With Dental panoramic applications, X-ray beams can be very narrow, down to single millimetre width, requiring a sensor that is small to ensure full irradiation, and hence not to underestimate dose (RTI Mako, RTI Piranha).

Dental panoramic positioning guide

Not only does the Mako R/F and Dental Probes have market-leading kVp accuracy (±1.5%), the intuitive software also provides a unique Position Guide for narrow beam X-ray (e.g. dental panoramic). The Mako sensor can measure beams narrower that 1mm (0.9mm sensor), and if the Probe is not properly irradiated, the software informs the user which direction to move the Probe for optimal results, ensuring dose is never underestimated.

Simple and intuitive tools

The RTI Cobia is the entry-level option for the most efficient and cost-effective solution, for regular checks on dental intraoral systems. The on-board colour display provides ultimate convenience to place beneath the X-ray tube, take an X-ray exposure, and instantly get an accurate reading. The intuitive, robust design means that it fits easily into a bag or toolbox, as an ever present companion for regular X-ray testing.

Measurements of DAP/KAP

Unlike other brands, the full fleet of RTI Multimeters (RTI Mako, RTI Piranha, and RTI Cobia) can connect to a DAP chamber. This means that DAP can be measured on extraoral dental systems (such as orthopantomographs), as stated in IEC 60601-2-63. Measurements of DAP are also displayed through the same intuitive Ocean software, meaning your entire X-ray QA workflow can be handled in the same interface.
