PRESS RELEASE

Mako PTB Approval 2026

In July 2026, RTI Mako achieved one of the highest levels of certification for an X-ray dosimeter with PTB approval, marking a major milestone in the continued evolution of the Mako platform.

PTB (Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt) in Germany is one of the world’s leading reference laboratories for X-ray dosimetry. As part of the approval process, PTB verifies an instrument’s performance against the requirements of the German Measurement and Verification Ordinance (MessEV), the German Measurement Act (MessEG), and relevant IEC standards, including IEC 61674 for diagnostic X-ray dosemeters.

Mako underwent comprehensive testing covering measurement accuracy, energy dependence, dose rate dependence, temperature and humidity influence, long-term stability, repeatability and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). The complete firmware and software chain was also evaluated as part of the certification process.

Mako achieved certification across all three applied areas: R/F (radiography/fluoroscopy), Mammography and CT applications. Certification across this broad application range provides strong independent validation of Mako’s performance and versatility as a comprehensive X-ray quality assurance solution.
The approval enables the certified Mako configurations to be sold in Germany and other markets where PTB approval is recognized or required. Globally, it also provides customers with an important independent reference for Mako’s measurement quality and performance.

Confidence for customers worldwide

Mako represents RTI’s latest generation of X-ray QA technology, and PTB approval provides customers and distributors with another independent reference for its performance.
For customers in regulated markets, the approval is an important requirement. For customers elsewhere in the world, it provides additional confidence that Mako has been independently evaluated by one of the most respected metrology institutions in the field.

A Legacy of Innovation in X-ray Dosimetry

RTI’s experience with PTB type testing dates back to around 1990, when the PMX-III became the first solid-state dosimeter to pass PTB type testing.
Since then, RTI has continued to develop new generations of X-ray measurement technology, with Barracuda, Piranha and Cobia all successfully undergoing PTB approval as the technology and regulatory requirements evolved.

With Mako now receiving PTB approval, the latest generation of RTI measurement technology continues that tradition.

PTB approval has been an important benchmark for RTI measurement technology for more than 35 years. Seeing Mako successfully complete this demanding process is a strong confirmation of the work behind the product and of its measurement performance. It gives our customers additional confidence that Mako meets the high standards they expect from RTI.” Sören Sturesson, Product Management & Technical Manager Calibrations, RTI Group.
